Taekwondo History

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art developed in the 1940s and 1950s. It combines techniques from Chinese and traditional Korean martial arts, emphasizing both kicking and hand techniques. Taekwondo was established as a unified system in 1955 and has since become a popular martial art practiced by millions of people worldwide. It was recognized as an Olympic sport since 1988 Seoul - Korea.

Taekwondo Philosophy

The philosophy of Taekwondo is based on the Five Tenets: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, and Indomitable Spirit. These tenets emphasize respect, honesty, perseverance, self-control, and an unbreakable spirit. By embodying these tenets, practitioners aim to become responsible individuals who contribute positively to their communities.

Taekwondo Postures

Taekwondo has several positions including Attention, Ready, Front, Back, Horse, L, and Walking stances. Each posture has a unique purpose and application in performing different techniques. Practitioners use these stances to improve their technique, balance, and mobility.

Anatomy

In Taekwondo, the body is divided into parts that play specific roles in executing techniques, including the fist, foot, knee, elbow, shin, instep, and heel. By understanding the function of each part, practitioners can improve their technique and power.

Intelligent Sequencing

Intelligent sequencing of Taekwondo involves arranging techniques in a logical and effective order for a well-rounded training session. It can include a progression from simple to complex techniques, grouping techniques by theme, warm-up and cool-down exercises, and exercises that improve physical fitness and technique.

Pranayama

Pranayama is a term from Yoga. In Taekwondo, the emphasis on controlled breathing and coordination with movement can have similar benefits to practicing Pranayama techniques, such as reducing stress and improving mental focus.

The cost of Taekwondo classes can range from $90 to $180 per month depending on the length of the membership, and that most memberships typically include at least two classes per week, with each class ranging from 50 minutes to an hour in length.
